Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device

It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and bringing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the insignia attached to her shirt.

It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the toys.
