The artist has given the entirety of his £25k Mercury Prize winnings to the MVT, which operates to preserve the Britain's grassroots live music spots.

The star was given the prize on October 16 as his third album his work was chosen as the outstanding release of the previous year.

He has opted to hand the money over to the MVT, in acknowledgment of the vital role small stages had in his initial steps.

"I personally would not have achieved this success if it weren't for all the shows I played around the region, and further afield, when I was starting out," remarked Fender. "These venues are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

Beginning in 2023, at least 150 of these locations have shut down – roughly 16 percent of the entire UK sector.

In the last year, top acts including the band Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the Music Venues Trust in its efforts to keep the scene afloat, by applying a minor surcharge to their ticket prices, which benefits smaller concert halls.

Fender also participated, raising in excess of £100,000 on his live tour to support numerous small stages across Britain.

The donation supported venues that were confronting possible closure due to difficulties caused by water damage, blazes and family tragedies, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and noise complaints.

Some locations obtained funding support in modernizing facilities and gear that positively impacted musicians and fans.

"The concept that money from concerts in major spaces supports the local stages, where it begins for artists like me, is just logical," Fender has stated.

In recent years, they contributed their prize money to the community center that supported their group, in addition to other independent music bodies.

Additionally winners that year the group donated their prize to a multiple sclerosis charity after a close contact was found to have the disease.

"Winning was sufficient," said vocalist the singer. "The cash was the bonus but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the honor. So our winning impacted another person's life."

In the past week, the trust revealed it had rescued a couple of local spots in south-east England, by placing them under community ownership.

The first in Southampton and the second in that location were purchased under the Own Our Venues scheme, which is supported by the arts council and supporters who purchase "ownership units" in the buildings.
